Holidays are both a stressful yet joyous time of year for most, but can be especially difficult when you have a loved deployed. Holidays just aren’t the same while you’re apart, especially if you just PCS’d and don’t have any family nearby! That’s why Walmart has parented with Operation Homefront and Fisher House to help support military families nationwide. Walmart’s “Holiday Salute to Military Families” initiative aims to honor and support our service members and veterans who keep our country safe, as well as the military families who act as our heroes at home, especially during the holidays!

Walmart is giving $2 million in support to Operation Homefront and Fisher House to help spread holiday joy to our nation’s heroes and their families. Walmart will fund Operation Homefront’s plan to provide toys and meals to military families nationwide who are in need of support this holiday season. The gift also will support Operation Homefront’s “Home for the Holidays” program, reuniting heroes with their families. And, Walmart’s gift will pay half the cost to make Fisher Houses completely free for all families in 2014.

And, we want to know who your hero is, this holiday season and every day! Leave a comment on here or Facebook and use #GivingTuesday and tag your loved one, sharing with everyone how grateful you are for them! Plus, if you are looking for ways to help military families, you can join in the Salute! Help Sponsor A Family in a Fisher House today –  click on Join in our Holiday Salute to Military Families !

He’s not perfect. You aren’t, either. But together, you can be.

I’m not sure where I found this, but I love it. He’s not perfect, and neither am I. And we never will be. But, we are perfect together ♥

As I write this, I am counting down the days ’til he returns home from ‘over there.’ It’s soon … but that’s all I’ll say.

It’s been a pretty crazy year during this deployment – heck, it was crazy before the deployment. We PCS’d from North Carolina to Texas, while I was 7 months pregnant, with a 4 and a 2 year old in tow. We visited friends and family along the way, just like we always do, and then settled into our new home. A month later, hubby flew to Alabama to attend Flight Medic school, and I spent my first Thanksgiving alone (ok, well, with the kids). We made the best of it, watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, playing, and eating my Mock Turkey Dinner, which consisted of chicken, cream of mushroom soup, and turkey stuffing (it was actually quite delish if I do say so myself). We Skyped with daddy during dinner. A few weeks later, he graduated and came home.

While we spent a wonderful Christmas together, we learned that our 2 year old son had developed asthma. He had been sick in November while daddy was gone, and was sick again in December. It was January when he was hospitalized with pneumonia … a week after I gave birth to Thing 3. All the while, I had begun the “Baby Blues” and a condition called D-MER which stands for Dysphoric Milk Ejection Reflex (you can read more about D-MER here) and begged my husband to take all of us up north where his family lived before he deployed so I could get the help I needed, for myself, and with the kids. While I never got the help I needed with the kids like I thought I would (and let me tell you, that is a whole ‘nother story for a whole ‘nother blog), I did get the help I needed for myself (postpartum depression and anxiety are not really a great combo). Somehow I survived raising my three munchkins on my own, even with multiple trips to the hospital, and driving back home cross-country with all three in tow, along with a dog, due to a huge falling out with my mother-in-law (never, ever, move in with your in-laws), and now, here we are, waiting for the day our family is complete once again. Oh, did I mention I also bought a house. On my own. During this beautiful, chaotic mess. We close on November 11. Power of Attorney’s are awesome, aren’t they!

While this year has been full of ups and downs, one thing’s for sure – he has stuck by me, even 10,000 miles away. He has put up with my manic emails about the kid’s lastest fiasco’s, the fights with the in-laws, my postpartum depression … everything, even when I wanted to just give it all up. And to me, that means he is perfect. This year isn’t over yet, and we haven’t closed on the house, but I am happily awaiting his return and starting our “new” life again, because he is my soul mate. I don’t know what I’d do without him ♥
